Some Mac users reported that they don’t know when there are many duplicate songs in iTunes/Music, which may be generated during the transfer from the old Mac computer to the new Mac computer, or the process of restoring data from TimeMachine backup. Is there any way to quickly find and remove those duplicate songs? On the one hand, you can better manage your iTunes/music library after deleting duplicate songs, on the other hand, you can free up some Mac storage space.
Fortunately, iTunes and Music application provides a feature to find duplicate items, In the iTunes or Music app on your Mac, click Songs in the sidebar on the left. Go to File Menu -> Library -> Show Duplicate Items, it will display all duplicate songs.
And then you can right the duplicate song, choose Delete from Library, or choose choose Show in Finder, and then move it to Trash.
But if you have hundreds of duplicate songs, how can you avoid manually deleting them one by one? Here we recommend third party disk utility application - PowerSuite, which can support finding duplicate songs from iTunes or Music library, and supports one-click selection of all duplicate songs and delete them.
Download and install PowerSuite application on your Mac. And then click Find Duplicate Files tab, open the music library folder (/Users/~/Music/Music) or the iTunes library folder(/Users/~/Music/iTunes/iTunes_Media), click the Quick Start button.
It will scan and find all duplicate songs in PowerSuite, click Auto Check button to automatically select duplicate songs (keep a song with the earliest creation date), and then click Remove button to delete them.
