Can’t Share or Export iPhone Call Recordings from the Notes App? Try This Fix

Starting with recent iOS updates, iPhone now supports native call recording and transcription without requiring any third-party apps—provided you have Apple Intelligence turned on. When you end a recorded call, the audio is automatically saved to a Call Recordings folder in the Notes app.

However, some users have reported an issue: when trying to share or export a saved call recording from the Notes app—whether saving it to the Files app or sharing it directly to another app—a loading spinner appears for a long time, then disappears without success. The recording simply fails to share. If you’ve encountered this problem, this guide will show you a reliable workaround to export your call recordings on Mac.

About iPhone Notes Attachments

The Notes app supports various file formats, including documents, audio files, and videos. When a call recording is saved in Notes, it’s stored as a note attachment, just like other media. To export these recordings, we can extract the attachments from an iPhone backup on a computer.

Step 1: Back Up Your iPhone with iTunes or Finder

You can back up your iPhone either via iCloud or to a computer. For this method, we’ll use a local computer backup:

1. Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable. On Windows, open iTunes. On Mac, open Finder.

2. Select your iPhone from the sidebar. Click Back Up Now. Make sure Encrypt Local Backup is unchecked. Wait for the backup to complete.

Step 2: Extract the Call Recording from the Backup

1. Once the backup is ready: Download and install iBackup Viewer from the Mac App Store.

2. In macOS, add iBackup Viewer to the Full Disk Access list: Open System Settings (or System Preferences)-> Security & Privacy -> Privacy -> Full Disk Access, then add the app.

3. Launch iBackup Viewer and select your iPhone backup to scan. After scanning, click File Browser. Go to AppDomainGroup -> group.com.apple.notes -> Media

4. You’ll see all Notes attachments here—images, PDFs, documents, and audio files. Locate your Call Recording file and export it to your computer.

Tip: Once exported, you can rename the file, move it to your preferred location, or share it with other apps without restrictions.
