How to Fix Mail App Not Working After the iOS 18.5 Update?

Many iPhone users have reported issues with the Mail app after updating to iOS 18.5. In some cases, the app opens to a blank white screen or freezes while loading the inbox. They tried force quitting and reopening it, but it still failed. This is really frustrating for users who have important emails or business messages to attend to.

If you’re facing the same or a similar Mail issues on your iPhone, here are several solutions that may help resolve the problem:

1. Disable VPN on Your iPhone

VPNs can sometimes interfere with the Mail app’s ability to connect to Apple’s mail servers, causing delays or freezing. If you have a VPN app installed or active VPN settings, try disabling or removing them. Go to Settings -> General -> VPN & Device Management, and turn off or delete any active VPN configurations.

2. Free Up iPhone Storage

If your Mail app stores a large number of emails, it may require significant storage space to function properly. Low storage can cause apps like Mail to slow down or fail to load properly. To check available space:

Go to Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage. If your iPhone is running low on storage: Delete unused apps and Offload or remove large files, such as videos or documents.

3. Restart Your iPhone

When disabling the VPN and clearing storage doesn’t help, or if the Mail problem is related to iOS updates or iOS cached data, restarting your iPhone may fix these problems. Steps:

Go to iPhone Settings -> General -> Shut Down, then slide to power off. After the iPhone shuts down completely, press and hold the Side button to turn it back on.

4. Reset Network Settings

Since the Mail app needs a stable internet connection to sync with mail servers, network-related issues may be the cause. To reset network settings:

Go to iPhone Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings. This will erase all saved Wi-Fi networks and VPN settings, so be prepared to re-enter them after the reset.

5. Check for a New iOS Update

If the issue is related to the recent iOS update, check whether Apple has released a newer version to address it. When many users report a problem to Apple Support, the team typically investigates the issue and may release a follow-up update to fix it.

To check for updates, go to: iPhone Settings -> General -> Software Update, and install any available updates.
